Thursday Summer 2v2 Sand League - YR2026
1. General Format
Matches are best 2 out of 3 sets.
Sets 1 & 2: to 21 points, win by 2, cap at 23.
Set 3 (if needed): to 15 points, win by 2, cap at 17.
Rally scoring is used for all sets.
Teams switch sides every 7 points in sets to 21 and every 5 points in sets to 15.
Each team plays two matches per night.
Warm-up time: 5 minutes before the first match only.
2. Team Composition
Each team consists of 2 players.
Substitutes are allowed but must be registered and approved before match play.
Teams may play with one player in emergencies but forfeit the second set if unable to field two players by the next set.
3. Scoring & Standings
Win = 2 points, Loss = 1 point, Forfeit = 0 points.
Standings are determined by:
Total points
Head-to-head record
Set differential
Point differential
All teams advance to playoffs in Week 8.
4. Serving Rules
Serve may be underhand or overhand.
Let serves (ball contacting the net and landing in) are legal.
Server must call the score loudly before each serve.
Players alternate serves every side-out.
No jump serves are required to be declared.
5. Playing Rules
No open-hand tips or directional finger pushes.
Clean contact required on sets; no prolonged lifts or double contacts.
Hand setting over the net must be square to the shoulders (forward or backward only).
Blocks count as a touch; the blocker’s team has two remaining contacts.
No open-hand receive on serve or attack; must use platform, closed fist, or hard-driven dig.
Ball may cross the net outside the antennas only if it returns within them.
Foot faults on serve result in loss of point.
6. Conduct & Sportsmanship
Matches are officiated by teams;
Disputes should be resolved respectfully between teams.
Unsportsmanlike conduct (arguing, profanity, taunting) may result in point penalties or removal from the league.
Alcohol and glass containers are prohibited on the courts.
7. Forfeits & Delays
Teams must be ready to play at their scheduled time.
A 10-minute grace period is allowed for the first match only.
After 10 minutes, the first set is forfeited; after 20 minutes, the match is forfeited.
Weather delays will be communicated via Volley Vortex Instagram (@volleyvortex_fl) and email.
8. Playoffs
All teams qualify for playoffs.
Seeding is based on regular-season standings.
Playoffs are single elimination.
Championship matches follow the same best-of-3 format.
Prizes awarded to 1st place (____) and 2nd place (merch).
9. Equipment & Attire
Official sand volleyballs provided by Volley Vortex.
No jewelry or sharp objects allowed during play.
