POSH Fall Sand Volleyball Tournament 2v2

About Sand Volleyball Sand volleyball, also known as beach volleyball, is a fast-paced and dynamic sport played on a sand court. Unlike traditional indoor volleyball, sand volleyball is typically played in pairs (2 vs. 2), which demands a high level of agility, communication, and endurance from each player. The game is known for its intense rallies, strategic plays, and the unique challenges that the sand environment presents.

Game Setup: - Court Dimensions: The sand volleyball court measures 16 meters long and 8 meters wide, with a net height of 2.43 meters (7 feet, 11 5/8 inches) for men and 2.24 meters (7 feet, 4 1/8 inches) for women. -

Ball: The ball used is slightly larger and lighter than an indoor volleyball, designed specifically for outdoor play.

Sand Volleyball Rules (AVP Guidelines) The tournament will follow the rules set by the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP), which are widely recognized in professional beach volleyball.

1. Scoring: - Matches are typically played in a best-of-three format. - The first two sets are played to 15 points, and the third set, if needed, is played to 7 points. - A team must win by two or if in 3rd tie break first to 7 wins.

2. Service and Rotation: - Teams alternate serves after each rally, with players serving from behind the end line. - Players are free to serve from anywhere behind the end line but must not step over it until after the ball is contacted. - There is no rotation of positions; players remain in their chosen positions throughout the set. 3.

Blocking and Attacking: - A block counts as the first of the three allowed touches, and the same player may legally touch the ball again immediately after a block. - The ball can be attacked from any height, and players may use an open hand hit (spike) to drive the ball into the opponent's court. 4.

Court Boundaries: - The ball is considered "in" if it lands on the line or inside the court boundaries. - If the ball touches any part of the boundary line, it is ruled as "in." 5.

Touch Rules: - Each team is allowed a maximum of three consecutive touches to return the ball over the net. - Players cannot make contact with the ball consecutively (no double touches), except in the case of a block. - Open-hand tipping or "dinking" (softly hitting the ball over the net with the fingertips) is not allowed in AVP play. 6.

Net Rules: - Players must avoid touching the net during play. A net touch results in a fault and a point for the opposing team. - Players may reach over the net to block or attack the ball, but they cannot interfere with the opponent's play on the ball. 7.

Weather Conditions: - Sand volleyball is often played in varying weather conditions, including wind and sun. Players should be prepared for these elements, which can affect the ball's flight and overall play.
